United Nations, Feb 23 (IANS) The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has named India for the first time as the global host of World Environment Day 2011 (WED) on June 5 for ‘embracing the process of a transition to a Green Economy.’

Kaipara Harbour tidal power scheme a world first – developer

Panaji, Feb 5 : The National Fishworkers Forum (NFF) today opposed the green signal given by the Environment Ministry to the POSCO project in Orissa, saying it had been done to protect economic and strategic interests of the company at the cost of not only the environment but also the lives and livelihoods of the fishing community.

Aquino urged to prioritize environment, ‘climate’ actions in MTPDP 2011-2016

 MANILA, Philippines – Green groups urged President Benigno S. Aquino III to lay-out his administration’s plan for the environment in the new Medium Term Philippine Development Plan (MTPDP).   Jonathan Ronquillo, environment campaigner of the La Liga Policy Institute also said Aquino should make sure that such plan will give premium to climate change.
